This week was pretty relaxed with holidays and long weekend. It become special by the visitof our grandparents. So we decided to go for a metro trip and a family photo shoot in G.K Vale.
We took family pics and then a group photo including Appacha,  Ammachi, Kunjamma, Shajuappa, Irene and we four.It was great.
After that we decided to take a trip in Bangalore metro. Metro was a long awaiting dream of Bangaloreans. It got inaugurated on Oct 20 2011.
We started our journey from Indiranagar to Bypanahalli. Then from Bypanahalli to M.G road and back to Indiranagar. To my surprise and delight, the trains and stations are extremly clean and the trains are running on time. Indeed Bangalore metro is in par with other international metros.Hats off to the guys who dreamt, designed and made it happen.

Johaan's first steps

I just noticed, its quite some time i didn't write anything on my blog. "Busy" is just an excuse.
Past 2 months was quite happening for Johaan. By 10th month itself he could able to hold and stand, crawl fast and smooth. Something he was afraid to try was to leave his hands and walk.
Then on May 10th, in the morning i felt instead of going office i will spend some time with the kids. And the day was really rewarding. By evening, he surprised me by leaving hands and walking. I encouraged him and he looked pretty confident. Now he is almost completing his 12th month and he could walk nicely and confidently by his own..Good Job Johaaaan..!!!!!!!!!

Sport's day (UKG) - Joshin

This years "Sports day" was special for us. One thing could be because this is the first time Joshin is attending a sports event in New Horizon.
In his school, there is a concept of different houses. They are named as Apollo, Venus, Hercules and Zeus. There sports uniform colour indicates which "house" they belong to. Joshin is in Venus and his sports uniform has a purple neckline which indicates Venus house.
This year he has been selected to represent his house. This means that he holds the purple "Venus" flag and participating the initial March Past.
Also at the end of the sports event there will be marthon race between the houses. The house leaders should start the marathon race. Venus came 3rd in the race.
Sports day was full of fun with a participation of nursery,LKG and UKG kids. It was great to see them in cute costumes holding each others hands and running.

Story Telling Competition (UKG) - Joshin

This was on the first week of January 2012. And Joshin got selected for the finals for this. His christmas holidays went in practising this. The story goes like this:

"In the light of the moon a little egg lay on a leaf.
One Sunday morning when the warm sun came up,pop out a tiny and very hungry caterpillar. He started to look for some food......
On Monday he ate through one apple, but he was still hungry....
On Tuesday he ate through two pears, but he was still hungry....
On Wednesday he ate through three plums, but he was stll hungry......
On Thursday he ate through four strawberries but he was still hungry......
On Friday he ate through five oranges, but he was still hungry.....
On Saturday he ate through one piece of chocolate cake, one ice cream cone, one slice of cheese, one slice of silami, one lollipop, one piece of cherry pie,one sausage, one cupcake and a slice of watermelon.
That night he had a stomach ache.
The next was sunday again and the caterpillar ate through one nice green leaf. And after that he felt much better. Now he was not hungry any more and he was not little any more. He was a big fat caterpillar.
He started to build a samll house called coccon around himself. He stayed inside for more tham two weeks. Then one day he made a hole in the cocoon and pushed his way out and he was a beautiful butterfly"

This is a story from a famous book "The very hungry caterpillar" by Eric Carle. This story was presented with a prop.

The prop was made with a prinkles hard cover and few cutouts from net.

Recitation Competition (UKG) - Joshin

Coming tuesday is Joshin's recitation competition finals. He got selected from his class for the finals(Finals will be between the selected students from all the UKG sections).I want to wish him "All the best". Here goes his poem:

Today I am going to recite a poem named 'The little boy and the Old Man' by Shel Silverstine. Shel Silverstine was an american poet. This poem talks about how grown-up's ignore old people as well as children. The poem goes like this:

Said the little boy,"Sometimes I drop my spoon"
Said the old man,"I do that too"
The little boy whispered,"I wet my pants"
"I do that too",laughed the old man

Said the little boy,"I often cry"
The old man nodded."so do I"
"But worst of all", the little boy said, "it seems"
"grown-up's don't pay attention to me"
And then he felt the warmth of an old wrinkled hand
"I know what you mean",said the old man.

Searching for the poem took several hours of mine since i didn't want him to mug up and say something in the class.I selected this poem because this have simple understandable sentences and a good message. Initially he had confusions between little boy and old man, but after a couple of practises he is clear and fluent. This is the second time he got selected for the finals in this year(UKG). The first was "Story Telling" competition, the details of which i will post some other day.
